LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION FOR BOOTHBY THERAPY SERVICES

January 21, 2008

To Whom It May Concern:

Last spring I had traveled to New Hampshire to explore job opportunities. In one month I would be graduating from Loyola College in Maryland with a Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology. At that time, I was unsure what area of the field to pursue my career in. I had interest in acquiring further training and competency with the school age populations with speech impairments and language disorders. Additionally, the pediatric population had always been a passion during my clinical work; most specifically with children ages birth to three. Regardless of the clinical setting or population, I wanted to have a successful clinical fellowship experience.

I spent a week in NH going on several interviews. Throughout the interviews there had been constant feelings of concern and fear. Is this an appropriate setting for my Clinical Fellowship Year? Would she achieve the expectations I had for my CFY mentor? Do I see myself working for this company subsequent to my clinical fellowship year? These were the questions I asked myself after the interview, and discussed further with my parents and colleagues. It wasn’t until I went on my final interview for a job with Boothby Therapy Services that these concerns were gone. Following the interview with Maren and Christopher Boothby I walked away with a smile on my face and feeling confident. I had known from my initial encounter with the Boothby’s that this would be the company to commence my career in speech-language pathology.

The relationship I would share with my CFY mentor was a critical factor in deciding a CF placement. There were certain characteristics that I sought of my mentor including open communication between her and I, availability for consultations, supportiveness of my learning style and clinical experiences and enthusiasm towards the field of speech-language pathology. While working for Boothby Therapy Services I was assigned a mentor who encompassed all these qualities, Maren Boothby. She has gone above the expectations anticipated of a CFY mentor, and has always shown genuine concern and support throughout my experience as a clinical fellow. Maren has revealed to me clinical skills and traits that can not be taught through text books, but through real-world situations.

Beyond the opportunity to interact in clinical settings with an intelligent and insightful mentor, Boothby Therapy Services has offered tremendous assistance with the managerial aspects of this job. Christopher and Maren were very accepting of my preference to work with the birth to three population, as well as school age children. They carefully considered options based on my preferences and were active in establishing contracts with agencies and school districts. Christopher and Maren organized my position to ensure ample time for direct services, treatment planning, and evaluations, as well as a manageable caseload. Additionally, I was offered a generous salary with reimbursement for required certifications and licenses.

While working for Boothby Therapy Services I have achieved a successful Clinical Fellowship Year. I hope you will consider a CF-SLP position at this renowned company. You will not be dissatisfied working with genuine people who are truly concerned with your success and contentment both professionally and personally.

Respectfully submitted,

Jessica M. Butler, M.S., CCC-SLP
