Can We Help Your Child

Occupational therapy is skilled treatment that helps individuals achieve independence in all facets of their lives. Occupational therapy assists people in developing the "skills for the job of living" necessary for independent and satisfying lives.

A pediatric occupational therapist works with children who may have developmental, learning or emotional difficulties that impact development. In pediatrics, the "job of living" requires basic skills such as eating, playing and interacting successfully with family members and friends. At Boothby Therapy Services, our goal is to provide the best possible evaluations and interventions for children of all ages. Our treatment approaches are geared to providing the most effective and updated methods used in the field to ensure that each child experiences the joy of success.

Therapy approaches are carefully utilized and organized so that the choice of sensory and motor activities help the child develop body awareness, self-regulation, attention, coordination, sequencing and motor planning.

How do you know if your child needs occupational therapy? The following checklist is a guide that may assist you in determining if an evaluation by an occupational therapist is warranted.

  • Does your child have difficulty with feeding/eating/swallowing/tolerating textures?
  • Has your child been late in achieving developmental milestones such as walking, running, riding a bike, etc?
  • Does your child resist coloring/writing/drawing?
  • Does your child enjoy puzzles, construction toys, blocks or is there a lack of interest in these toys?
  • Does your child have a fear of heights, swings, and other pieces of playground equipment.?
  • Does your child avoid physical activity or sports?
  • Is your child very active and always on "the go"?
  • Is your child over-sensitive to loud noises or bright lights?
  • Is your child over-sensitive to clothing, textures, being touched or grooming activities?
  • Does your child have problems with sleep?
  • Is your child very sensitive emotionally so that there are frequent temper tantrums, outbursts, refusals, frustrations, etc.
  • Do you feel like you and your family are always "walking on eggs" around your child?
  • Can your child make friends and relate to other children appropriately?
  • Does your child seem to have weak muscles and gets tired easily?
